Part1 : Brand Logo - The Standard Hotel

The Standard Hotel logo was designed by Tibor Kalman, depicting the words “The Standard” in white, upside down within a red box. In contrast to the name, The Standard hotel motto is "expect the unexpected.", which eschews tradition and replaces it with anything bold and brash. The logo well reflects the brand motto and it makes people look forward to unexpected thing.
Personally, I think the logo is brilliant to show the identity of the hotel. Furthermore, when you know about what the owner's idea about the hotel, it helps to understand more clearly about the hotel and logo as well. According to related article, Andre Balazs, who is the owner of the Standard hotel, said " Everybody's used to us doing something a little different. We believe a god hotel is far more than a set of rooms, and what makes a hotel unique is its personality, its social life, its cultural life. "
Part2 : Design a logo for ITP
First time I thought about the identity of ITP was the name itself, interactive and communication. I messed around with the letters and I tried to design a logo that reflects the program's meaning.
Among the drawings above, I chose two things to specify. The word 'telecommunication' reminds me of thinking signal bars on a phone. And I create the letters to look like signal bars. I made one with gray color and other one with violet which is same as NYU.
The first thing you can see when you are at the ITP floor is the 'Wooden mirror'. At first, I hesitated to design the logo by depicting 'wooden mirror' because I can't say the work represented the ITP. However, I thought maybe it has symbolic value to express what ITP is, so I decided to design the logo below with different colors. Later, I'd like to develop this logo by using processing, which can be generated with various colors.
